About Us

   We are an outdoor lawn bowling Club with first class bowling and social facilities. The outdoor season runs from mid-April through to the end of September. Our excellent six rink green is one of the best in The County. During the season bowling takes place seven days a week. On weekdays the rinks open at 2pm to enable essential green maintenance. We run more than fifteen internal competitions and take part in outside leagues and county competitions as well as a full week-end programme of friendly matches against local clubs. Roll ups are held most weekday afternoons.

   In the Clubhouse there is a members only bar and social area, dinning facilities, a large kitchen and changing rooms. (See the Gallery page)

   The Club has extensive grounds featuring superb topiary and even a large 18 hole putting green which is open to the public during Summer opening times.

   The Clubhouse is open at certain times during the Winter months for social activities including 'Friday Club Night', regular Sunday lunches and numerous social and fundraising events.

   Some indoor matches are also organised against other clubs.

A Brief History of WBC

Ware Bowling Club was established in 1926 on ground which until relatively recently was occupied by the Roebuck Hotel in Wadesmill Road, now The Snowdrop Care Home. In 1931 it relocated to a site behind the Angel Public House in Star Street and in 1964 moved to its present location in the Priory Grounds behind the Ware Lido.

    Throughout the year dedicated club members maintain the green, surrounding floral displays and topiary to ensure it remains one of Ware's great community assets, and in 2008 Ware BC was named as Bowls England club of the Year.

   Our Green and surrounding gardens are well known and have been in the press and on television.

The club is conveniently situated in a beautiful location to the rear of Ware Priory. We are a friendly club which welcomes both experienced and new bowlers alike.
